Activity Cards

Fire Watch volunteers are needed to host a booth at the OCFA Open House. This is a very busy and fun event, and the Conservancy is asked to provide information on our Fire Watch program by manning a booth.

The Lead for this event would need to pick up some supplies from the Conservancy office on the Friday before the event, then return the supplies on the following Monday. The volunteers for this event would just be there for the event on Saturday.

Actual event time is 10 am to 3 pm. Shifts are as follows:

• First: 9:30 am-12:30 pm
• Second: 12:30 pm-3:30 pm

Please feel free to sign up for both the first and second shifts if you can. Even though the shifts say “Registration,” you will actually be manning a Conservancy information booth. You will receive a flier with directions in your confirmation email.

The ride will start at the sandy bottom of a wide, deep wash, lush with riparian growth. The trail climbs steadily through coastal sage scrub until it meets the southern end of Limestone Canyon. Riders will have ever changing views of the surrounding hills and the Sinks, a geological point of interest. At the top of our climb, we will find a water trough left from the old cattle days, where the horses can drink and rest. We return by the same route from which we came.

This ride does not have steep climbs, but the grades are steady and continuous. Owners of unshod horses, please note that footing will include areas of gravel. Please bring water on the ride. The staging area is a large pull-through gravel lot with water and restroom facilities. Staging area policy dictates that we clean up after our horses and haul out our manure.
