Come join us for a fun walk in Fremont Canyon where we will observe our native birds and look for animal evidence along the way. Fremont is known for a wide variety of bird life from songbirds to raptors. The canyon is also a wildlife corridor, and a wide variety of animal tracks such as from mule deer, raccoon, coyote, bobcat, and mountain lion are often seen. We will watch the birds and other signs animals have been here as we learn about the habits and behaviors of these canyon residents. Please wear appropriate attire to get a little dusty in, enough water to stay hydrated and bring sun protection. Binoculars will be provided for participants who do not have their own.

Join us every Monday night for a fitness-focused hike on the paved Hicks Haul Road. During the winter, hikers will enjoy views of the city lights and a panoramic overview of Orange County’s coastline. This hike travels about 3.5 miles, up to the top of Loma Ridge and back down.

The hike is conducted at about 3-3.5 miles per hour, but you may travel a bit faster or slower, at a walk, run, or jog depending on your comfort level.  Most participants finish the route in about 1 hour.

How about a family picnic at sunset in Bommer Canyon?  Bring your own picnic dinner to enjoy prior to a brief hike through Bommer.  The first 30-40 minutes of the program are dedicated to enjoying your dinner that you brought in the Cattle Camp picnic grounds. Bring food that is already prepared. No cooking is allowed.  Dinner is followed up by a 1.5-2 hour hike at Sunset. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes for the hike.  All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
