Ticks, rattlesnakes and tarantulas, oh my! Delve into the fascinating lives of some of Bommer’s notorious “Bad Guys,” and discover how these amazing creatures fit into the ecosystem and really aren’t always as bad as some people think. On a walk around the canyon, learn how to avoid getting on the “bad” side of ticks and rattlesnakes, and practice first aid skills you will need to know in case you ever do need it.

This program is a perfect afternoon adventure for children ages 6 – 10 years of age. We will spend time exploring our program’s topic, maybe create a craft or play a game, before we head out on the trails to practice what we learned. Our hike will be a gentle one mile trek along uneven terrain. Off road strollers are welcome to join the fun!

Parents or guardians must register themselves and their child(ren).

Come along for a fast paced hike (3.75-4 miles per hour) along the Orchard Hills and Loma Ridge trails. The hike winds along the Avocado orchards with breathtaking views of the city of Irvine and, on clear days, views of the ocean and Catalina.

The hike goes up on Loma Ridge for a total of 10+ miles. The hike includes steep climbs and descents with significant elevation gain (2600 ft. plus). Those in very good physical shape will enjoy this cardio fitness opportunity. Remember to wear appropriate shoes, a hat, sunglasses and bring plenty of water. Hiking poles are welcome as well. Under-prepared participants may be denied access to the event.

Enjoy a morning walk with the birds on a bird walk in Limestone Canyon Nature Preserve. All levels of birders welcome. As a wildlife sanctuary, Limestone Canyon is a home to an abundant number of native plants and old groves of Western Sycamores and Coast Live Oaks. The remaining land features rolling hills and canyons of coastal sage scrub and grasslands. Come prepared for a morning of exploring this delightful wilderness preserve and its abundant bird life. Please bring your binoculars. If you do not own a pair, we have extras for you to use.
