Join us for an energizing trail run at Bommer Canyon, a scenic open space in Irvine known for its rolling hills, rugged paths, and breathtaking views of Southern California’s coastal landscape. This 7.5-mile route, featuring elevation changes totaling 1,300 feet, offers a diverse mix of rocky trails, gentle slopes, and challenging inclines, making it an excellent choice for intermediate and experienced trail runners. We’ll aim for a moderate pace of around 13 minutes per mile, adjusting for terrain and taking advantage of flatter sections to push the pace a bit. With a blend of uphill challenges and smooth, runnable stretches, this run will be both a great fitness boost and a beautiful outdoor adventure. Remember to bring water, a hat, sturdy trail running shoes, and some snacks. Participants should be physically fit and have prior experience with trail running or fast-paced distance hiking.

Come start your week with us on our Super Treks in the Landmarks as we explore Limestone Canyon and the Red Rock Wilderness. This area exhibits a range of very special geologic formations, has had various historic and recreational uses, and is home to a diverse population of plants and animals.

We will enjoy beautiful views of rugged canyons from Limestone Ridge and then head over to the Red Rock Wilderness where we will hike around the base of the iconic Red Rocks before climbing up for a view from the top. Along the way, we will pass a model airplane airport and have amazing views of Irvine Lake. Note that we may encounter stream crossings. The route for this hike may be shortened or altered due to trail conditions or adverse weather.

Please wear hiking shoes/boots and bring water, a trail snack, sunscreen, hat, and any other necessary equipment to keep you safe on the trail. Hiking poles may be handy.
Participants must be able to hike 10 miles with an elevation gain of 1000 feet at an average moving rate of 3 miles per hour. Reviewing the 1-through-5 Difficulty Ratings will help you evaluate your readiness for this level-4 activity on the land.

Join us for an unforgettable guided mountain bike adventure through some of Orange County’s most scenic and protected landscapes. This docent-led ride kicks off at the historic Bommer Canyon Cattle Camp, where we’ll climb the West Fork Trail to the top of Bommer Ridge. Take in sweeping panoramic views as you catch your breath—this is just the beginning.

From there, we’ll flow over to Lizard Trail, riding through lush riparian habitat before a short climb brings us to Serrano Ridge. Enjoy a fun descent down Camarillo Trail as we make our way to the Nix Nature Center for a quick water refill and reset.The adventure continues with a mix of rolling climbs and rewarding terrain as we make our way to the Cattle Crest trailhead.

From there, we’ll ride Cattle Crest into Shady Oaks—both offering a fun blend of challenging downhill singletrack and short, punchy climbs to keep things exciting.
After one final push out of the canyon, we’ll reach the gate to Hogback—your gateway to one of the most fun, flowy singletrack descents in Orange County. We’ll finish with the exhilarating Ridge Route, a fast, flowing ride back down to our starting point.

Expect great trails, stunning views, and a supportive group atmosphere. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself or simply enjoy the ride, this is an experience you won’t want to miss. This intermediate-paced ride is designed for experienced riders who are in excellent physical condition and comfortable on challenging singletrack terrain. Expect a rewarding 15-mile route with approximately 3,000 feet of elevation gain, featuring a mix of sustained climbs, exhilarating descents, and a few technical sections where riders may choose to walk their bikes.

This activity originates in the City of Irvine’s Open Space Preserve and travels into OC Parks’ Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.
