IRC staff, local butterfly enthusiasts, and experts continue to monitor IRC’s butterflies every month! We will be recording number and types of butterflies encountered along the trails of Limestone Canyon. Our butterfly count will provide a benchmark estimate of diversity and number of these beautiful insects to compare to future local surveys and to larger patterns being compiled nationwide. Be prepared to share your appreciation and knowledge of butterflies. Bring close-focus binoculars and be ready to be out on the trail for the full morning.  Spaces are limited.

Senderismo en Español en el CAÑON REDONDO

Hike and Learn? What? If you are a student of the Spanish language or someone who would like to practice Spanish while getting some exercise and enjoying the beauty of Round Canyon, this hike is for you. You will learn words specific to the Historic Irvine Ranch. Hiking can improve cognitive functions such as attention, memory and learning. Learning in nature is fun and may deepening your connection to the flora and fauna around you. All levels of Spanish welcome!

Si eres estudiante de español o alguien que desea practicar el idioma mientras haces ejercicio y disfrutas de la belleza del Cañon Redondo (Round Canyon), esta caminata es para ti. Aprenderás vocabulario específico de los Espacios Abiertos del historico Rancho Irvine. Caminar puede mejorar funciones cognitivas como la atención, la memoria y el aprendizaje. Aprender en la naturaleza es divertido y puede profundizar tu conexión con la flora y la fauna que te rodean. ¡Todos los niveles de español son bienvenidos!

Join us Sunday morning in OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space for a fitness-focused hike on the Hicks Haul Road, West Loma and Shoestring trails in Limestone Canyon. Hikers will enjoy wonderful views and a panoramic overview of Orange County. The hike starts at Hicks Haul Road staging area and will cover a distance of 8.25 miles, about 5 miles of the hike is on paved surface and rest on trails. Participants are expected to hike close to 3.5 miles per hour and come prepared with closed toe hiking boots or shoes, water, trail snacks, sunscreen, hat, day pack or fanny pack, and any other necessary equipment or supplies you might need to keep you safe on this hike.
